My Phillies Phandom
The 16th day of 2015 started at Citizen's Bank Park. These last two years, as a group ticket leader, I have been invited to the Winter Caravan Breakfast to meet prospects and for Q&A with Phillies management. 1/16/15 was the event this year and it was a really good breakfast and a really nice event and I was glad to be able to bring my good friend along with me. And, as we took a picture with the two WS trophies and he told me how he was at the clinching game in 1980 and I told him about how I was at the clinching game in 2008 and we shared memories and it got me thinking to all of the games I went to in the 1993 series run and the fun memories even of my first games, at the Vet, with my dad. And I realized baseball is the ultimate connecting sport, connecting generations across decades. Connecting superstars that come back to manage or be a GM or be another part of the organization. As Ken Giles was remembering how just last year he was on the prospect panel and now he is a large part of this team's future, I really enjoyed the connections he was making from last year to this. I know lots of other sports have history and fandom passed down from generation to generation, but there is something about baseball and watching Charlie Manuel get excited talking about watching "good baseball being played at the High School level," it made me even happier to be such a fan.
