Connecting While Grieving
2/10/2015 was the 41st Day of 2015 and I found myself connecting in a different way today. I was at the funeral for the mother of a dear friend and former colleague. The obvious connections to observe were the connections between family and the person who has passed, and the connections of my former colleagues who all came out to support our friend, as well as the feelings I personally had as I connected back to those in my family who are no longer with us and connected with my feelings of missing them. But those were not the most profound connections I realized today. In the order of service there were some poems, and the following lines struck me:
"My root had a garden with many seedlings not her own
She tended to them with her unique form of care, love, and sensitivity
Each one was special and dear to her
As we day goodbye to our root's earthly body we welcome her as our angel in her spiritual essence
She has earned her Pretty Wings and will continue to nurture us all from her heavenly home
She tended her garden well"
Everyone called her "Momma" or "Mom" She cared for those in need, whether they were her blood family, or just her extended family. She tended her garden well. I connected to all of that and hope to emulate it in my own life. This is the way I want to honor and celebrate a life well lived.
